When Jayme Schrank, 13, of Bethpage, New York, was planning her Bat Mitzvah, she decided to make this milestone coming-of-age event a very special day for children in need. Together with her family, she collected brand new toys and stuffed animals, which she then donated to K.I.D.S. partner agency Circulo de la Hispanidad in Long Beach, New York. Inspired by Jayme's generosity, Gus Nerantzinis, the owner of The North Ritz Club in Syosset, New York, where the party was held, sent a donation of $200.00.
Sarah Berlin, 11, was asked to make a project showing how individuals and groups organized to solve real world problems. She did a little research and decided that she really liked how K.I.D.S. helped kids everywhere. What she's most happy about? That her end-of-year project for Mrs. Logan's class at Streams Elementary School in Upper St. Clair, Pennsylvania was seen by so many people - she wanted to make sure everyone knew about her new favorite charity.
Skylar Nobles of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, was watching a segment on the Disney Channel's "TTI" series (also known as "The Time I..") featuring a little girl who was turning 7 who collected shoes in lieu of presents for her birthday. Inspired, Skylar decided to turn her 9th birthday into a shoe drive and collected 24 pairs. The best part of it all, she said, was the happiness she felt about being able to inspire others to take part in her mission and now she's thinking of a way to make turning 10 an even more successful collection event. Her shoes will be donated to partner agency Olivia's Closet in Piedmont, South Carolina.
