K.I.D.S.' Sixth Anniversary Women In Industry Luncheon ("WIIL") was held at The Plaza Hotel on Thursday, May 31, 2012.
The keynote address was given by Kathy Ireland, CEO and Chief Designer at kathy ireland Worldwide. While mostly known as a model, actress and author, Ms. Ireland has carved out a successful niche in the design and marketing arenas. She is highly regarded for her business leadership as well as her devotion to numerous philanthropic causes including the Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation and St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
Also honored as Women of Achievement were two other exemplary women: Sharon John, President of Stride Rite Children's Group and a member of the K.I.D.S. Board of Directors, and Sandy Wax, who is President and General Manager of PBS KIDS Sprout. Ms. Wax, who created the first 24-hour online and on demand TV preschool destination for kids 2-5 is also a devoted philanthropist through her support of Cradles to Crayons and Please Touch Children's Museum in Philadelphia. Ms. John is a tireless and compassionate leader whose incredible generosity has helped provided thousands of needy children with a sense of pride, confidence and self-worth.
The WIIL luncheon also was an opportunity to show appreciation and say farewell to Janice Weinman, who stepped down as President of K.I.D.S. after nine years. It was obvious from the response in the room that Janice's drive, spirit and commitment to the cause of children challenged by "distressed" situations had touched so many. While she moves ahead to tackle a new adventure at the Hadassah Foundation, she leaves behind a legacy we will continue to build upon.
