For 25 years, K.I.D.S. has provided over 65 million underprivileged and disaster-struck children with nearly one billion dollars of new clothing, toys, basic necessities, juvenile products, books, and much more. Thanks to generous donations from retailers and manufacturers, K.I.D.S. has been able to provide children, and often their entire families, with self-esteem and hope through a gift of something BRAND NEW.
The donations are distributed through a network of nearly 1,000 local community social service agencies in the U.S. and abroad. Approximately 85% of our support goes to U.S. efforts and 15% helps international children and families. With overhead costs consistently under 3%, K.I.D.S. is one of America’s most efficient charities, earning Charity Navigator’s highest rating of four stars, and meeting all standards set by the Better Business Bureau’s Wise Giving Alliance.
An all-time high of nearly $90 million worth of new clothes, shoes, toys, books and juvenile products went to children and families in need in 2009. Our efforts reach children who are challenged by poverty, homelessness, domestic abuse, low literacy, military family service, major illness and incarcerated family members. (see product donors)
When disasters strike in the U.S. and abroad, K.I.D.S. responds quickly and efficiently. For the 2010 earthquake in Haiti, K.I.D.S. was able to provide $16 million in desperately needed new product to the survivors. In 2007, over $2.6 million worth of product was distributed to children and families driven from their homes by wildfires in Southern California. Within weeks of Hurricane Katrina in 2005, K.I.D.S. rallied the childrenswear, shoe, juvenile product, apparel and toy industries to provide over $12 million of product for approximately 40,000 Gulf Coast flood victims.
K.I.D.S. is governed by an active Board of Directors consisting of 40 leaders from the retail, apparel, juvenile products, toy, shoe, development, finance, marketing, accessories and legal fields. K.I.D.S. has 6 employees and additional interns.
K.I.D.S. is a tax-exempt charitable organization under Section 501(c)(3) of the U.S. Internal Revenue Service code. Our tax ID number is 13-3300271.
