Our friends, partners and supporters come together several times a year to rededicate themselves to the K.I.D.S.’ mission and to recognize those donors, foundations, individuals and agency partners who contribute so much to the lives of the children and families we service.

N.Y. K.I.D.S. Day

Please join us for New York K.I.D.S. Day on June 5th!

On June 5th, 2011, Kids in Distressed Situations, Inc. (K.I.D.S.) and Big City Moms will be holding a first and special New York K.I.D.S. Day family event. Established by proclamation by Mayor Bloomberg last year, K.I.D.S. Day is a celebration of the joy that both children of means and children in need share together. The event will provide families with children from ages 2-10 an opportunity to enjoy carnival games, sports, crafts, and entertainment - including a special performance by Kicking Daisies. The event will take place on Sunday, June 5th, from 10am - noon at Sports Club LA, 330 East 61st Street. Proceeds from the event will help K.I.D.S. send new products to children and families in need.

Women in Industry Luncheon

Once a year, leaders from the fashion and related industries attend a luncheon in New York to honor women from media, business, and the fashion industries who share first-hand their experience about helping children and families. At the 2006 luncheon, Leslie Stahl provided a moving testimony of her career in the media, and in 2009, New York State’s First Lady Michelle Paige Paterson was honored for her “Healthy Steps” children’s anti-obesity initiative. The luncheon also serves as an opportunity for women of all backgrounds to come together around their common interest of helping to fight poverty and make a difference in the lives of children.

Our 25th Anniversary Gala

On December 1, 2010, 650 guests gathered at Cipriani Dolci in NYC to help benefit children in need and raised approximately $1 million. The event was hosted by Gayle King, editor-at-large for O, The Oprah Magazine and host of The Gayle King Show, and featured Newark Mayor Cory Booker as the keynote speaker. The organization also raised close to $3 million in donated new product toward its 2010 goal of $100 million worth of new merchandise to distribute to needy children. As part of the event, K.I.D.S. honored three industry leaders for their exceptional contributions to help underprivileged and disaster-struck children. Honorees included: John Goodman, Executive Vice President of Sears Holding Corporation; Oscar Feldenkreis, President & Chief Operating Officer of Perry Ellis International; and Wayne Elsey, Founder & Chief Executive Officer footwear charity Soles4Souls. A special service award was given to Karen Bromley, Principal of The Bromley Group, a K.I.D.S. Founder and Board Member, for her 25 years of continuous service to the organization.

K.I.D.S. holds parlor meetings, receptions and other events throughout the year for supporters to learn, mingle and be updated on the progress of the organization.
