Celebrations - Creative Examples

Jackson and Julia Kessler of Westchester, NY, asked each of their friends to bring a book to their fourth birthday party, and, as a result, over twenty brand new books were donated to K.I.D.S. After the party, Jackson and Julia brought the books to our partner agency, Open Door Family Medical Center, and put them all on the special rolling cart. Of their experience, the twins said, “We learned that it’s nice to give books to other children that need them so that they can learn to read and enjoy them.” Their donation supports the Reach Out and Read program which enables each child to receive their own book while waiting to see a doctor.

Jolie Croissant of Eugene, Oregon, raised $440 for K.I.D.S. through her 7th birthday party. In lieu of gifts, and on behalf of Jolie, party goers donated to the K.I.D.S. Haiti relief efforts. Of her inspiration, Jolie said, “I saw the pictures on the news of the earthquake, and wanted to help the kids in Haiti. I thought that instead of getting presents for my birthday, that I could collect money to help out.” K.I.D.S.’ extremely low overhead costs and high level of efficiency means that every financial donation is greatly maximized. For every $10 of donated cash we can provide a child or family in need with $100 of valuable new merchandise. An excellent example of K.I.D.S.’ unique model is the comparison of Jolie’s donation of cash and the donation of product from another first time K.I.D.S. donor moved by the plight of Haiti’s children.
