Our friends, partners and supporters come together several times a year to rededicate themselves to the K.I.D.S.’ mission and to recognize those donors, foundations, individuals and agency partners who contribute so much to the lives of the children and families we service.
K.I.D.S. holds its annual gala each December to honor industry leaders and humanitarians and to raise much-needed funds for the organization. K.I.D.S. celebrated its 25th anniversary at its gala on December 10th, 2010 with 650 guests at Cipriani in New York. The gala raised nearly $1 million in funds and $3 million in donated new products for children in need. The event was hosted by Gayle King, editor-at-large for O, The Oprah Magazine and host of The Gayle King Show, and featured Newark Mayor Cory Booker as the keynote speaker. K.I.D.S. honored three industry leaders for their exceptional contributions to help underprivileged and disaster-struck children: John Goodman, Executive Vice President of Sears Holding Corporation; Oscar Feldenkreis, President & Chief Operating Officer of Perry Ellis International; and Wayne Elsey, Founder & Chief Executive Officer footwear charity Soles4Souls. A special service award was given to Karen Bromley, Principal of The Bromley Group, a K.I.D.S. Founder and Board Member, for her 25 years of continuous service to the organization.

Once a year, leaders from the fashion and related industries attend a luncheon in New York to honor women from media, business, and the fashion industries who share first-hand experience about helping children and families. K.I.D.S.’ 5th Annual Women in Industry Awards Luncheon on June 1st, 2011 raised over $200,000, a record breaking amount. 400 guests filled the ballroom at the Pierre Hotel and shared moments of laughter and pain as the mission of K.I.D.S. was celebrated and the accomplishments of five great women were acknowledged. Each speaker, including the keynote speaker, fashion journalist and author Teri Agins, spoke about the importance of giving back to others and the opportunity to make a difference through K.I.D.S. This year’s luncheon honored five women for their noteworthy accomplishments in the professional and philanthropic worlds: Mary Gleason, President of the Schottenstein Luxury Group and Brand President of Judith Leiber, Adrienne Vittadini and Taryn Rose; Joan Karron, Executive Vice President and Principal of CHF Industries; Lorna Nagler, President of Beall’s Department Store and Risa Goldberg and Leslie Venokur, founders of Big City Moms.

On June 5th, 2011, K.I.D.S. and Big City Moms held the first annual New York K.I.D.S. Day family event. Established by proclamation by Mayor Bloomberg last year, K.I.D.S. Day is a celebration of the joy that both children of means and children in need share together. The 2011 event provided families with children from ages 2-10 an opportunity to enjoy carnival games, sports, crafts, and entertainment - including a special performance by Kicking Daisies.
