Denver Children's Home

Denver Children’s Home (DCH), Colorado’s oldest non-profit agency, works to ensure that at-risk children in residential treatment, in-home and after-school programs and their families receive needed services. With the help of a grant from the Nord Family Foundation to pay for the transportation of donated goods, children and families across Colorado felt the generosity of K.I.D.S. and its product donors.

With 1,728 pairs of Uggs boots, DCH outfitted girls in its residential and day treatment programs. Through the many non-profit collaboratives that serve the Denver community, the popular boots became welcome gifts to girls struggling to fit into peer groups. “A perfectly timed donation” said mothers shoveling through one of Denver’s worst snowstorms.

Next came 31 pallets of Nike apparel valued at over $500,000. The clothes were lined up in warehouse space donated by Volunteers of America and DCH alerted local non-profit groups to “come and get it!” Families in need and non-profit workers poured forth in cars, trucks and vans. All were astounded by the rows and rows of clothing. Many of the parents were humbled by the opportunity to give their kids brand new clothes, often for the very first time. Scenes of grateful families in need receiving apparel were repeated over and over throughout the day.

"We were honored to facilitate such a bountiful donation and impact our community do dramatically," said Dr. Rebecca Hea, associate executive director of DCH. Kim Davis, a member of the DCH staff, echoed her sentiments: "I experienced a satisfaction in knowing [that] one organization, with our help, can impact so many children, so significantly and so immediately."
